Meet Dario Vitale, the Istituto Marangoni graduate leading Versace’s new era

After graduating in 2006, he became the Design and Image Director at Miu Miu and now succeeds Donatella Versace as Versace’s CCO
Fashion has a new maestro at the helm of one of its most closely watched houses. Dario Vitale, a 2006 graduate of Istituto Marangoni Milano, has been named Chief Creative Officer of Versace, marking a significant shift for the brand known for its Medusa emblem. This transition comes as Donatella Versace, at the creative helm of the luxury house founded by her late brother Gianni for nearly three decades, steps down to take the role of Chief Brand Ambassador.
Vitale, who served as Design and Image Director at Miu Miu until January, will officially begin his new role in early April.
Introducing Dario Vitale, the Istituto Marangoni Alumnus Taking the Helm of Versace’s Next Chapter
Born in 1983 near Naples, Dario Vitale has been a rising force in the Milanese fashion scene for years. After graduating from Istituto Marangoni in 2006, he built his career through prestigious stints at Bottega Veneta under Tomas Maier, Dsquared2, and Miu Miu, where he grew from the role of fashion designer to Design and Image Director. His ability to blend modernity with heritage, along with his refined yet daring aesthetic, has made him one of the industry’s most anticipated creative leaders.
When Vitale departed the Prada-owned brand this January, his deputy Francesca Nicoletti—also an alumna of Istituto Marangoni Milano—stepped into his role.
Dario Vitale’s success highlights the significant role of Istituto Marangoni in shaping influential figures in fashion design, business, and styling. With a network of alumni in key positions across the industry, Vitale now joins the group of creatives shaping global fashion.

For Dario Vitale, this opportunity is nothing short of a dream realised. “The House of Versace has a unique heritage that has shaped the history of fashion. It is a privilege to contribute to its future growth through my vision, expertise, and dedication,” he said.

We are convinced that his experience and vision will bring a new perspective to the brand.”
Inside Donatella Versace’s New Role as Chief Brand Ambassador
As for Donatella Versace’s new role, Capri Holdings, the parent company of Versace, announced that Ms. Versace will shift her focus to the brand’s philanthropic and charitable initiatives, while continuing to serve as a global advocate for Versace.
In a statement, Donatella Versace shared, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity. In my new role as Chief Brand Ambassador, I will remain Versace’s most passionate supporter. Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart.”
What’s Next for Versace?
Vitale takes the reins at a time of potential transformation for Versace’s parent company, Capri Holdings. After the collapse of its proposed merger with Tapestry, speculation swirls about the possible sale of Versace, with luxury giants like Prada Group rumoured to be interested.
How Vitale will navigate this uncertainty while maintaining the house’s rich legacy remains to be seen—but one thing is certain: with his innovative approach and deep respect for Versace’s DNA, he is poised to usher in a thrilling new chapter.
