Pocket Memories: An Exploration of Filson's Archive
Pocket Memories: An Exploration of Filson's Archive
During the 107th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, WP Archivio, in collaboration with Istituto Marangoni Firenze, presents the exhibition “Pocket Memories: An Exploration of Filson's Archive,” which explores the evolution of Filson, the iconic Seattle-based outdoor clothing brand. The project centres around the concept of the pocket, a symbol of both functionality and intimacy, showcasing its transformation from a practical feature to a symbol of personal identity. The pocket becomes a container for memories and tools, connecting the past and present. A notable example is the distinctive design of the Cruiser Jacket, with its signature back pocket originally intended to hold the maps of 20th-century explorers.
This exhibition celebrates the evolution of Filson by combining archival pieces and visual installations, illustrating the brand’s unique blend of functionality, emotion, and individual style. The exhibition is organised in two distinct areas: the WP Store and the adjacent loft, each offering interactive experiences. In the store, the Durable Memories display compares vintage and modern jackets, while the Reflections of Identity installation invites visitors to explore the relationship between clothing and individuality through circular mirrors. In the loft, Fragments of Memory creates an immersive atmosphere that evokes the landscapes and memories associated with Filson. It employs a mix of sounds and visuals that transcend time, offering a poetic exploration of memory and the brand’s enduring influence.
This interdisciplinary project brought together the expertise of several departments at Istituto Marangoni Firenze, including Fashion Styling, Arts Curating, and Creative Digital Media.
