The course focuses on an aesthetical approach on food imagery, putting the importance of food trends research, food styling (from the dish to the mise en place) and photography at the centre. During the course students are invited to analyze how food inspired art and fashion and the contamination between the different arts. The course blends styling and food, focusing on fine dining trends and table decoration. It includes food photography, drawing inspiration from arts, fashion, and beauty. Students explore emerging lifestyles and luxury hospitality, utilizing color psychology and trend research to generate their creative moodboards. The multidisciplinary approach equips learners to create captivating content for social media and magazines, enhancing their storytelling and visual communication skills.
An aesthetic play between food and styling to power content creation
The short course targets participants who have a dedicated interest in styling, visual design, food aesthetics and design, photography and new lifestyle trends, together with creatives and aesthetic lovers with interest in food image.
The course focuses on enhancing participants skills in creating a visually appealing storytelling for magazines and luxury hospitality brands which a special emphasis on the aestethical approach to the food image for digital media. It puts at the center the importance of the °instagrammability° of food trends, visual research, food styling (from the dish to the mise en place) and the technicalities of photography for food related editorials. Upon successful completion of the short course, the students will be in a position to upskill the tools and techniques they have learnt in image styling which will help towards a professional outcome.
Week 1
The week 1 focuses on the analysis of food and the development of style. From the definition of the culinary moods to the importance of the cultural homage, the participants will evaluate the ingredients and learn how to enhance and complement its physical characteristics. Participants get an overview of key styles, starting from an investigation of food trends, focus on current social media-driven aesthetics and future trends. To fully understand the role of the food stylist, guidance in sourcing and collating information from an array of research tools will be thoroughly investigated.
Week 2
During week 2, the participants evaluate advanced color theory and tablescape as a refinement used to enhance physical features such as fabrics, kitchen tools, food textures to create an attractive image design. They will gain an understanding of the fundamental elements used to dictate a style (i.e. the importance table setting, lighting atmosphere, food styling history and art movements) and of the key notions in photography and photo shoot planning. Finally, they develop a particular style narrative ready for a photo shoot and collate their work in an individual style book.
