Loraine
Holmes
With a background in the Arts, Loraine Holmes knows no limits to her professional achievement and determination ever since a short trip to Italy turned into a love story with fashion, so much so that she decided to pursue a career in the industry. In line with this goal, she enrolled in a Fashion Design course at Istituto Marangoni Milano and, during the second year, she did an internship with Catalan designer Teresa Helbig in Barcelona. After graduation, in 2014, she packed the newly acquired skills and valuable experience gained in Italy and moved back to her country of origin, Chile, where she founded her namesake fashion label in 2015.
With an eye on Made in Italy expertise and a global vision of fashion, her dream was to become a successful designer and to get recognition in her homeland. It actually took her a really short time to break into the Chilean market and position her brand as one of the most appreciated of her generation. Loraine’s designs boast a glam and everyday style; all materials are imported from different countries in Europe and in her work she personally recognizes the importance Istituto Marangoni had in cementing her career in the fashion industry. She dressed local celebrities including Javiera Mena and Daniela Vega and even designed a special dress for Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral Museum; she showed her collections at high-level fashion shows, one of the most acknowledged being 99 FW16, showcased at Ropero Paula in 2016 – a tribute to freedom, determination and love inspired by military uniforms and classic tailoring techniques. One year later, she was selected Revelation Designer of 2017 by ModaCL and won the 2017 Emerging Designer prize awarded by AIEP university. She has been featured in popular local magazines, such as Paula, Harper’s Bazaar Chile and Cosmopolitan Chile; international magazines including Vogue Latam and Luukse Mag; and international digital media channels like Shop Bazaar – Harper’s Bazar UK, The Ones To Watch and Yoko Magazine.
