Meet Andrea Alchieri, the star-approved designer

Let me introduce myself. My name is Andrea Alchieri, I am 24 years old and I am from Milan. I have always had a strong passion for painting and creative drawing, which I inherited from my father's family, especially my grandfather. He imparted in me his love of art and beauty in all its forms.

My passion for beauty and art lead me to study Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni in Milan, where I became passionate about tailoring and deconstructionism. During my academic career I won awards such as the selection for the VIEW.S competition launched by Zara, for which I co-created a capsule collection with four of my fellow students. Then I was selected for an internship at the Zara style offices in Coruña where I spent several months working as a Junior Designer for their Women’s line.

During my third academic year, I was also selected as a finalist for the Arts Of Fashion Foundation contest, for which I developed the "Faceless" capsule collection that was shown in France. I graduated in February 2021 with the launch of my "Admit One" collection, coming out as one of the best 10 designers of the year with a Fashion Movie hosted by Istituto Marangoni on Vogue talents and other major magazines.

My school career has been a highly formative experience; I grew from a personal point of view and, I had the opportunity to grow professionally working in teams after winning several projects and collaborations.

How would I define myself? A sunny person with a creative soul and a dynamic attitude. In my work I think out of the box, experimenting and creating new shapes and volumes by deconstructing them. I consider myself a curious person, always looking for new inspiring sources to learn and improve from. In all my projects, I always try to include my "crazy" side, focusing on conveying emotions through what I create, taking great care of every aspect.

I've always been fascinated with the way a collection can evoke different emotions and feelings in other people, and how it can be seen as a medium related to our daily life.

“The circus is seen as an inclusive place, where clowns, in their androgynous, asexual dimension, become the expression of a possible equality: their gaze reveals modernity, and it is no longer about beauty, race, gender or age, but skills and fearlessness” – Andrea Alchieri

Titled “Admit One” and designed during my third year at Istituto Marangoni, my graduate Fall-Winter 22/22 collection fully captures all these aspects, allowing people to experience a kind of show that is different from “normal” and is set to impress. A project with a common thread - deeply linked to the amazing circus universe - that reflects children’s sense of wonder and entertains the adult.

"Is that clown a man or a woman? Neither. He is a clown." This is where my journey starts, from the place where clowns find their raison d'être, under a big tent. This memory was the starting point of my research, among characters who have made the clown’s art great, archive footage of real legends and then stories.

"Admit One" was created as a tribute to minimal clothing by taking it apart and putting it back together to create deconstructed shapes and readjusted volumes. Focusing on the traditions of nomadic circus performers, the collection was inspired by non-conformist gypsy lifestyle and the American street theater movement of the 1990s. The circus is seen as an inclusive place, where clowns, in their androgynous, asexual dimension, become the expression of a possible equality: their gaze reveals modernity, and it is no longer about beauty, race, gender or age, but skills and fearlessness.

“My graduate fall-winter 22/22 collection “Admit One" was a success thanks to collaborations with Italian talent such as Achille Lauro, Jhona Burjack, Michele Bravi and Melancholia” – Andrea Alchieri

The collection project was a success thanks to collaborations with important stylists and celebrities such as Achille Lauro, Jhona Burjack, Michele Bravi, Melancholia and other singers and influential people in entertainment. It is currently in a showroom in Florence.

After completing an intense three-year degree program, I found a job in Rome at the Fendi Style office and I currently hold the role of Junior Womenswear and Couture Designer.
