Am I the only fashion girl left who loves colour?

Fashion crowds always in dark outfits? Meet five style pros who are making colourful looks cool again

Who needs seasonal colour palette theories when you’re in London, Milan, Paris, or New York? It feels like everyone in the fashion scene is rocking head-to-toe black.

In the past few weeks, as Fashion Month took over the Big Four, you could sense the trends in these cities. Sure, every metropolis has its distinct style, both on and off the runway. Still, there’s undeniably a growing flock of stylish “black crows” circling the fashion world—credible, powerful, yet understated.

Beyond the clothes displayed on the catwalk, take a look at the photos of those sitting in the front row—whether celebrities, editors, or content creators. One common feature often brings them together: dark-toned outfits, with black reigning supreme as the dominant choice.

It got me thinking: why does black dominate fashion when there’s a whole rainbow of colours that could expand our style choices? Maybe it’s because, for many, black is their “happy colour.” According to colour psychology, a preference for black can reflect a sense of power and seriousness. It’s a colour that speaks of confidence and authority.

Additionally, opting for an all-black look can be a strategic move—a quick fix for blending in without going overboard while wearing bold shapes and daring silhouettes. It’s also practical when you’re in a rush and don’t have the time or patience to experiment with colourful combinations. However, experts warn that not all fabrics absorb black dye equally, so be cautious when mixing and matching different textures.

Still, sometimes I can’t help but wonder—what’s the mood of these people in all-black outfits? What we wear and the colours we choose reflect more than just our style; they can also mirror our mood. On TikTok, young creators are discussing colour theories, suggesting that hues can even influence how others perceive us. For instance, they say wearing white to an exam could help boost your chances of doing well – not sure how true that is, though!

So, if, like me, you’re feeling the itch to break away from the black uniform and experiment with bold new shades (even as a bit of a good luck charm), here are five TikTok profiles that will inspire you to embrace colour in your everyday outfits. Let’s see if it works!

Caroline Vazzana, AKA The Modern-Day Carrie Bradshaw

Let’s start with a bang by talking about one of my absolute favourite content creators, Caroline Vazzana, who is a social media star in her own right.

@cvazzana So happy you all love these videos😭💞thank you for being here and for letting me share my fun colorful clothes with you!! #dressup #nyc #fancynancy #fyp #TikTokFashion #styleinspo #whattowear #maximalist #howtostyleclothes #maximalism #overdressed ♬ original sound - Mads

Based in New York, she’s a fashion writer, editor, stylist, and influencer who loves calling herself the modern-day Carrie Bradshaw—and she truly lives up to that title.

Vazzana has worked with and continues to collaborate with top magazines like Marie Claire, Teen Vogue, and Real Simple, always adding her stylish twist. Her outfits are extravagant, showcasing her love for colours, unconventional materials, and daring patterns, making her both distinctive and inimitable—yet always super chic and cool. Don’t you agree?

Caroline Vazzana has also written a book and started a podcast series, “Making It in Manhattan: The Beginner’s Guide to Surviving & Thriving in the World of Fashion,” where she shares her fashion journey, career advice, and personal stories.

Celeste Evans Is a Colour Expert

Celeste Evans, aka @celmatique, is a content creator who embraces vibrant, adventurous outfits and encourages her followers to mix and match hues fearlessly.

@celmatique the darker the days, the brighter the fits IMO! 🤌🏽✨ #dopaminedressing #colortheory #color #outfitideas #colorfuloutfit #falloutfits #winterfashion ♬ marys_theme.mp4 - joanna sui

Why follow her? Well, if you’re like me and tend to shy away from bold palettes, Evans’ videos are the perfect starting point to experiment with colour. She makes it easy to try out bright, energetic looks, which can help you overcome any fear of mixing strong shades.

Dressing Up with Laura Maree Smith

Sometimes, all it takes is a small change to stand out, but many of us, myself included, often feel more comfortable sticking to softer palettes. Lately, though, I’ve been enjoying adding pops of colour through accessories like bags, hats, or scarves—depending on the season, of course. If you also love adding some flair to your outfits, then @lau.maree on TikTok, aka Laura Maree Smith, will be your go-to.

Her profile is full of Amsterdam street-style inspiration, and she effortlessly incorporates colour, patterns, and prints into her looks.

Nav Khuttan’s Basic Outfit Matches Are Anything but Basic

Nav Khuttan, a UK-based streetwear fan, keeps his looks simple but never boring. While he avoids clashing too many colours together, his love for soft, neutral palettes—like white tees and jeans—is anything but dull.

He often starts with a basic outfit and then elevates it with accessories and subtle hints of colour, proving that even minimalist outfits can pack a punch.

Vicky Montanari Doesn’t Take Herself Too Seriously

Last but certainly not least, we have Vicky Montanari, known as @vicmontanari. While she’s most popular on Instagram, her following on TikTok is quickly growing.

What sets her apart? Her playful approach to both fashion and content creation. Watching one of her videos feels like having a FaceTime call with a friend who’s full of unconventional fashion tips.

Vicky Montanari’s style is effortlessly chic, but she never takes herself too seriously. She plays with fashion and colours, staying true to herself and incorporating trends to complement her personality rather than the other way around.
