Shanghai celebrates fashion
As the Chinese fashion industry grows into an outstanding contribution to the global scene, the latest Shanghai Fashion Week set the spotlight on some of the country’s leading fashion talents and upcoming designers alike. Istituto Marangoni contributed to the line-up of sparkling fashion designers staging their collections and seized the chance to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Shanghai school.
Held from March 28 to April 3, the Shanghai Fashion Week featured a number of fashion shows, showrooms and events for the promotion of established and emerging fashion designers. The week kicked off on March 28th with BoF China Prize, the global award for emerging Chinese designers. Among the six finalists, who competed in front of a panel of international fashion experts to win a cash prize and the chance to participate in the London Fashion Week next September, alumnus Zhou Jun’s Pronounce is a promising fashion label that has already gained popularity among key streetwear aficionados with its cross-cultural aesthetics.
Other Istituto Marangoni former students have already caught the attention of industry leaders in their market segments. Ji Cheng, Fashion Design & Womenswear graduate 2002, and Ren Zicun, Fashion Design graduate at Istituto Marangoni Paris (2016) and founder of the brand Zickness, showcased their collections on April 3rd at Xintiandi Hall B; while Tan Li Chen and Lin Yubo, Fashion Design Womenswear Master’s graduates at the Milano School, presented the outfits for their Thisnorthat brand at the Ontimeshow trading location in the Longteng Ave.Xuhui district, Shanghai.
Finally, as the value of fostering creative talent and ongoing synergies between businesses in the sector and students has been well established over the years and is now set as a priority and pride, in celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Istituto Marangoni Shanghai, on March 28th the School organised a showcase of the collections designed by the best students of 2018 who have previously exhibited in Milan for Fashion Graduate Italia and have now unveiled their creations at Corso Como 10 in Shanghai. A thrilling screening of the contemporary vision of today’s trends, with unique styles and insights emerging into an inventive account of craftsmanship and creativity.
