Shanghai's Spectrum
The ten most talented young designers of Istituto Marangoni Shanghai presented their final year collections during the 2019 Shanghai Fashion Show, a great celebration of the emerging talent fostered by the school on the catwalk of the Chinese Fashion capital's Fashion Week.
The fashion show, named Spectrum, is inspired by the multiple identities of the fashion designers (Yunqing Bai, Yuqing Li, Wenhao Cui, Mick Shen, Xinyue You, Julia Zhou, Shuo Tang, Baihui Zheng, Kexin Wu, Wang Di), that expand from a variety of sources and inspirations from traditional Chinese roots, full of colours, decorations and symbols to trace dystopian silhouettes and elements, the spectrum of the next generation.
"Light" is colourless, but it can be seen in the prismatic refraction; it can be illuminated into the black hole, which can better illuminate the way forward."
After the nomination of Wang Di as Designer of the Year for the Shanghai school, special guest designer Lucio Vanotti hit the catwalk with his new SS20 collection. Referred to as the next successor to Giorgio Armani by the media, the outstanding Istituto Marangoni alumnus created an unforgettable visual feast with a collection that features minimalist and bright rhythms.
Lucio Vanotti said, "I love simplifying. There is so much information around. I feel that I need more space to breathe. Sometimes a complexly decorated skirt will shift people's attention from the wearer's face to the skirt. You are 'worn' by this dress. But in fact, you should wear this dress."
