Ioana Nicole Babici is the winner of Milano Moda Graduate 2024
On Tuesday 17th september 2024, in the impressive Sala delle Cariatidi of the Palazzo Reale in Milan, Ioana Nicole Babici, a brilliant designer from Istituto Marangoni Milano, was awarded with the esteemed Milano Moda Graduate prize, the contest promoted by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana that celebrates the excellence of Italian fashion schools at national and international level.
Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Ioana is currently pursuing a degree in Fashion Design & Accessories at Istituto Marangoni Milano. Her talent and dedication have already been recognised in several prestigious competitions, including the Kotra Contest 2023, where she emerged as the winner, and the Voci Future Prize Massimo Dutti 2024, where she was a semi-finalist.
Ioana’s winning project, “Balancing Act”, is a collection that masterfully captures the dual nature of existence: rigidity and freedom, order and chaos. Drawing inspiration from modernist sculpture and the anti-art movement of Dada, Ioana crafted garments that oscillate between structured 1940s silhouettes and the fluid abstraction of ‘90s avant-garde fashion. The collection’s fabrics played a key role in this narrative, with some pieces using rigid, architectural materials while others embraced freedom and movement with flowing textiles. The neutral color scheme, punctuated by fabric manipulations, further emphasized the contrast between minimalism and the rebellious spirit of Dada.
Presented at the opening of Milan Fashion Week, Ioana’s innovative creation captivated the audience and industry experts alike. Renzo Rosso, Chairman of OTB group, presented the award, recognizing her outstanding design skills.
This remarkable achievement is a testament to Ioana's creative vision and technical expertise. Istituto Marangoni Milano is immensely proud of the success of this young and talented designer which further confirms the excellence of our school.
