Istituto Marangoni alumna Merve Ucar wins the “Special Lectra Award” at the 2017 Mittelmoda Fashion Award. The 24^th edition of the international contest took place at La Fabbrica Del Vapore, via Procaccini 4, Milan, within “Milano Moda Uomo”. A jury of world-renowned professionals, led by Matteo Marzotto, Mittelmoda International Lab president, examined the works of students and young designers coming from more than 600 schools of Arts and Design in 55 nations, and selected Claudio Maria Potenti and Merve Ucar, Istituto Marangoni Milano students, along with other 21 young talents from all over the world that showcased their collections during the final event. Merve Ucar won the “Fil Rouge” Special Prize offered by Lectra, main sponsor of the contest, to the most innovative total look that had a “Touch of Red”. Born in 1988 in Istanbul, Turkey, Merve Ucar graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2008, with a degree in Fashion and Textile Design. After the graduation, she worked for two years as an assistant designer in Setre and prepared oversized garments by the referance of Arzu Kaprol. In 2012, she ranked as second runner up in the 7th edition of the Aegean Exporters Association Competition: as a prize, she was awarded a scholarship at Istituto Marangoni Milano sponsored by the Turkish Ministry of Economy. At Istituto Marangoni, Merve Ucar completed the Womenswear Master Programme cum Laude in 2014, and in 2015 she completed a second master degree in Accessory and Luxury Design & Management. In 2015 she started working as Senior Designer at Massimo Monteforte, and in 2017 she won the “Golden A’ Design Award” in the Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Category, presenting her F/W 2017/2018 Collection.
