This Bachelor's Degree recognized by MUR (Ministry of University and Research) provides students with the technical and creative skills needed to manage complex projects and become professional artists, including art critics, journalists, exhibition curators, and many other figures in the art and fashion world.
The course teaches students how visual language works and how it relates to cultural context. In addition, the course provides participants with the perfect skills to independently manage large events and create communication campaigns.
THE ROLE OF ART CURATOR
An art curator is responsible for the overall management of an art exhibition, be it an art gallery or a fashion event. The selection and arrangement of works, along with the creation of the narrative that characterizes the experience, are key aspects of this role. In an increasingly digitally influenced environment, the curator must integrate cutting-edge techniques to present and communicate art and fashion projects in an effective and innovative way.
After the three-year validated Degree in Arts Curating, students can pursue careers as exhibition curators, art critics, journalists, art directors, and other roles requiring skills in communication and event planning for art and fashion. Interdisciplinarity with students in other courses allows students to curate not only art exhibitions but also fashion events, broadening their professional perspectives and equipping them with the use of new technologies.
The course also offers many other subjects with a focus on photography, new media, publications, and many other areas to ensure a comprehensive and integrated education aimed at successfully addressing an ever-changing industry.
FIRST YEAR:
Research and visual communication. Students are introduced to the basics of visual research, learning how to interpret images through the acquisition of skills in photography and image technology, fashion history and visual communication design. During the second semester, they focus on photography and the analysis of works, culminating in the creation of an exhibition on paper (thanks to the Interactive Systems course).
SECON YEAR:
The focus shifts to publishing and writing, with a focus on art direction, analyzing the rules and various methods of publishing art projects (film and contemporary art) and related interpretive concepts. Aspiring creatives learn to convert contemporary art concepts through words, creating scripts for podcasts and personal publications. The curriculum also includes a focus on the anthropology of art, providing a solid theoretical foundation and making room for the exploration and use of static and moving images (video).
THIRD YEAR:
Students focus on developing their final project (art exhibition or publishing project), presented through installations, performances, exhibitions or digital projects becoming autonomous on all levels: from the cultural and curatorial aspect to the economic and managerial strategy. In fact, the third-year curriculum also includes courses in marketing and communication of complex events, with direct interactions with fashion professionals and lectures/seminars by cultural managers, which are the main protagonists and experts in the field. The final outcome of the project (which is an original artwork and its related presentation), is evaluated by a panel of tutors and Art Experts, for valuable feedback consistent with what the market will demand from future art and fashion professionals.
Istituto Marangoni Florence offers a unique opportunity for visual culture enthusiasts and those who wish to explore the history of art and fashion, providing a perfect environment to explore these two synergies and develop new perspectives. In addition, with its proximity to world-class museums, the prestigious Pitti Immagine, and partnerships with institutions such as Palazzo Strozzi, students can immerse themselves in ancient and contemporary art. Access to a rich heritage of crafts and production centers also provides an unparalleled context for exploration and creativity.
Thanks to Istituto Marangoni’s strong link with leading companies within fashion, art and luxury fields, together with its international community of students, the school offers a unique methodology that allows students to work on projects under the supervision of the most prestigious luxury brands, gaining valuable global perspectives.
